Breakfast at Macs

Task: To observe the on-goings during break and write a short article about it.

Singapore

MacDonald’s has continued to be the leading fast-food chain especially in this fast-paced society where everyone wants things done instantly, even when taking their meals.

Breakfast is said to be the most important meal to kick off with the energy needed to last the whole day.

Of course MacDonald’s would clearly understand its customer’s need for convenience and value, and came up with the $2 breakfast, ignoring the fact that breakfast works best when healthy food is consumed.

The $2 breakfast is cheap and tasty, and with the rising food prices in Singapore, it is a steal for both students and working executives to grab one before heading to class or the office.

It is common to see students heading to Macs during their morning class breaks. And because their break is short, the golden arches is a popular choice for them to get their money’s worth for breakfast.

Imagine having this sort of breakfast at least once a week during the whole school term. Apparently, even though some have said that the Sausage Mcmuffin has shrunk in size, it has not deterred consumers from continuing to purchase the meal.

In fact, it may be a psychological issue where people think that because the portion is slightly smaller now, they are not consuming as much unhealthy food as before. Even better, the meal comes with hot tea to wash down all the oil and ‘fats’.

Now isn’t that a comforting thought?

Maybe people should start watching Fast Food Nation and Supersize Me again to realize how much junk food they are consuming on a regular basis, just because Macs provides cheap, tasty fast-food.

Other fast-food chains are following in MacDonald’s footsteps, coming up with similar breakfast deals to woo customers to just grab and go.

The only solution to such unhealthy breakfast living, is that consumers would schedule in some time for exercise.

Note: This is not an attack on MacDonald’s or any fast food chain. It is just an observation and my thoughts while having a Mac’s $2 breakfast meal during the class break. Yes, the irony of it all. BUT, I did go running the next morning. =)

Well, at least I’m not new to blogging.. i have my own blog.. But hopefully, this academic blog would be both insightful for others and a learning experience for myself. =)
